Is nothing safe?

Not only is it costing more to run our vehicles nowadays, current fuel prices are also affecting local businesses with the unlikely theft of cooking oil from takeaways and restaurants. Yes, gone are the days when someone would get a clip around the ear for stealing a can of Dandelion & Burdock, it’s now fifty litres of industrial strength cooking oil when no one is looking.
Converted vehicles can run on various types of fuel, and cooking oil is just right for the job. Big in the US and Canada already, incidents of this type have now hit the shores of Britain and it only looks set to get worse as prices at the pump remain high.
Neighbourhood police officer, Sergeant Stuart Gunstone told reporters there has been a recent spate of thefts in his area. 'Until now I haven't been made aware of it being a problem in the UK. It seems to be a specific group of offenders targeting specific areas. The problem is that a lot of places leave their back doors open because it gets hot in the kitchen.'
It costs around £200 to get a car or van to run on vegetable fat and this won’t take long to be recouped – especially over long distances. It’s reported that the adaptation carried by certain garages is more prevalent on the older diesel engine. With around £1,200 worth of equipment needed to tool up, let’s hope police can keep an eye on those garages and their customers for having this type of conversion done for the wrong reasons.
